Dooars or Duars, as the name suggests, is the gateway to Bhutan from India. It lies on the foothills of the north-east Himalayan region. How to reach:

Road: NH31 is the main highway in this area and also the prominent mode of transport. You can either book the State’s bus services or some private ones online. Also, shared taxis and jeeps are quite popular here.

Train: Rail service is available from Cooch Bihar to Kolkata passing through New Jalpaiguri.

Airport: Baghdogra  airport is well connected with Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati, flights can be boarded from the above mentioned airports.

Excursions: Buxa Fort has its roots in the colonial age of India. Britishers used it as a detention camp and a high security prison for our freedom fighters. Malbazar witnesses some beautiful tea estastes whereas Bhutanghat is blessed with scenic views of River Raidak. One should not miss spotting the One-horned Rhino in the Gorumara National Park, Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary and Chapramari Wildlife Sanctuary. You would also get to see snakes, leopard, wild elephants, wild boar, bull, and the exotic fauna while enjoying an Elephant Safari.

Activities: This place with loaded with fun activities be it Birdwatching in Raimatang village or Buxa Tiger Reserve where you can spot more than 290 birds, or relaxing in a boat ride in Sikia Jhora. There is also a watch tower at Buxa Tiger Reserve from which you can have a 360 degree scenic view. Apart from Elephant Safari, Gypsy rides by the Forest Department would take you through the extravagant wilderness in all its raw aspect.

Accommodation: Staying here is not an issue due to the presence of many standard to luxurious guest houses, lodges, and hotels in near buy areas.
